Microsoft removing support for Windows 7 on 14th January 2020

Upgrade your computer to Windows 10 today!

When Microsoft stop supporting Windows 7 in January next year there will be no more security updates / fixes which means continuing to use this operating system for anything that involves your personal information, in particular your online banking or for buying and selling will be an increasingly risky proposition.  The only way forward will be to upgrade your system to Windows 10.

Fortunately, most computers currently running Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 should be capable of upgrading to Windows 10 and running it comfortably – a few might need a bit more memory (RAM) adding.  Computers running older operating systems going back as far as Windows XP and Vista may also be suitable, depending on their specification.

No Charge for new Windows 10 Licence

Currently Microsoft are not charging customers upgrading to Windows 10 (i.e. for the new licence) so the only cost for most customers (those running Windows 7, 8 or 8.1) will usually be just a couple of hours of my time.

Upgrade Process

The upgrade process is as follows:

  1. I’ll check to ensure as best I can that your computer is ready and capable of running Windows 10 comfortably.
  2. If your computer is OK for the upgrade I’ll confirm the cost to you and the timescale involved – usually a day or two at most is all I’ll need.
  3. I’ll need your computer here at my workshop to carry out the upgrade due to the time it can take so you can either drop it off here or I can collect.
  4. Depending on the computer involved and the particular set up at your home / office I may be able to just hand the computer back to you or I may need to visit you to complete the upgrade (i.e. to install a printer for example).

Don't like the new blocky Windows 10 style?

If you prefer to retain the menu style of Windows 7 instead of the new Windows 10 look I can install a small program after the upgrade that will help in this regard.  The program itself is very effective and quite affordable at only £5.99.

Upgrade Windows XP, Vista, 8, 8.1 to Windows 10

If you’re still running Windows XP, Vista, 8 or 8.1, following a quick check of your machine it may also be possible to upgrade these to Windows 10.  The same process applies as above.

What if my computer is too old to upgrade?

If your computer is not capable of running Windows 10 and would cost too much to upgrade its hardware I can offer new computers and laptops at great prices.
